Lent Portraits

We’re calling this year’s 40 day preparation for the celebration of Easter “Lent Portraits”– and along the way we’re going to look at a few key Bible characters. Think of it like a stroll through an art museum where portraits hang on the walls, some well known, some more obscure, and all of them colorful and complex.

In the gallery, the same portrait subject can be interpreted in many ways, depending upon the artist. Of course, the interpretive lens that we will use to see these Lenten portraits is Scripture itself. But like the masterpieces in the museum, our biblical subjects will reveal many layers of complexity as we look at them with a creative and discerning eye.

To help your preparation for Sunday teaching, we’ve produced a Devotional Guide that introduces each portrait character, Scriptures for the day, and a thought or two to help with your study and contemplation. If you’d like a copy, please click here.

Note: The file is in a print-ready format and you’ll want to print the booklet, in color, front/back, and landscape for best quality.

Meanwhile, here’s a brief overview of the schedule for Sundays in Lent:
